Brainwave Entrainment Explained

Brainwave entrainment refers to the idea that rhythmic sensory stimulation can influence neural oscillatory activity. Techniques can include auditory beats, isochronic tones or visual stimulation.

Why evidence varies

Studies use different frequencies, exposure times, tasks, masking sounds, participant groups and measurement techniques. That makes generalization difficult.

Promising is not proven

A 2025 integrative review reported promising findings across multiple areas while also calling for larger samples, stronger control groups and randomized trials. Conflicts of interest are also worth noting when interpreting any review.
